Landfill, transfer station or convenience center?

A landfill is where waste is buried; most accept the public on weekdays and charge by weight, with a minimum for small loads. A transfer station consolidates loads for a landfill elsewhere and is usually closer to town, so it is the better stop for a pickup of household junk. A convenience center or drop-off is for residents with a car load and often requires proof of address. Which one you need depends on the load: see the differences explained, check whether an item is accepted, and get a dollar range before you drive.
